Moscow, October 27 (Xinhua) — The death toll from the explosion at a plant in Kopeysk, Chelyabinsk Region, Russia, has risen to 13, the regional government press service reported.

"Based on the verification process, a list of the tragedy's victims has been compiled. It includes 23 employees of the plant. Thirteen people have been declared dead, and their bodies have been recovered. The rubble at the site of the explosion is being cleared. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, a search is underway for the remains of the other victims. Further identification work lies ahead," the release stated.

Previously, it was reported that 12 people were killed and 35 were injured, while the whereabouts of 11 people remained unknown.

Two explosions rocked Kopeysk on the evening of October 22. According to emergency services, the collapsed workshop area covered 840 square meters. A state of municipal emergency was declared in the Kopeysk urban district.

The regional Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case. Investigators believe the explosion was caused by a safety violation.
