BEIJING, March 31 (Xinhua) — The international community must exercise heightened vigilance against the rightward tilt of the Japan Self-Defense Forces and the country's remilitarization trend, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Tuesday.
Mao Ning made the announcement at a regular briefing, commenting at a journalist's request on the information that the Japanese Self-Defense Forces officer who broke into the Chinese embassy in that country with a knife was handed over to the prosecutor's office by Japanese police.
According to Mao Ning, this incident revealed how deeply poisonous right-wing ideas and a distorted perception of history have taken root in Japan, as well as the extent of the damage they cause. The parents of the Self-Defense Forces officer who illegally entered the Chinese Embassy said he showed no extremist tendencies while growing up and studying in his hometown, and they do not understand why he did it.
