NEW DELHI, March 31 (Xinhua) — At least eight women were killed and about 10 people were injured when a stampede broke out at a temple in India's eastern Bihar state on Tuesday, a local police officer confirmed by telephone.

According to him, the stampede occurred at the Sheetla temple in Nalanda district of Bihar state at around 10:00 am local time.

Video footage circulating on social media shows injured women being rushed to a local hospital. There are fears the death toll will rise, as some of the injured are reportedly in critical condition.
