BEIJING, March 30 (Xinhua) — China's retaliatory measures against Japanese politician Keiji Furuya, who supports Taiwan separatists, are fair, based on Chinese law, protect national interests, and are consistent with generally accepted international practice, Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said on Monday.
Zhu Fenglian made the statement in response to a question about the retaliatory measures imposed by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs against Japanese House of Representatives (lower house) member Keiji Furuya for his egregious actions related to Taiwan.
The office representative recalled that the Taiwan issue is at the core of China's fundamental interests and represents a red line that must not be crossed.
Keiji Furuya's persistent ties with forces advocating for "Taiwan independence" and provoking tensions constitutes gross interference in China's internal affairs and a serious undermining of its sovereignty and fundamental interests, Zhu Fenglian stated.
“We strongly oppose such actions and take retaliatory measures in accordance with the law and as a warning to others,” she said.
The official spokesperson emphasized that the Taiwan Democratic Progressive Party administration, driven by selfish interests, slavishly relies on external forces, forgets its roots, and betrays national interests. "Such behavior will certainly be condemned by history," Zhu Fenglian added. –0–
