JAKARTA, March 30 (Xinhua) — A motorboat named Nazila 05 sank in the northern waters of Taliabu Island in Indonesia's North Maluku province, leaving 27 passengers missing, the Palu City Search and Rescue Authority announced on Monday.
The boat owner first reported the incident around 10:00 a.m. local time, prompting authorities to launch a search and rescue operation, department head M. Rizal said in a written statement.
"According to the report, the vessel departed from Taliabu Island for the village of Kema on Sunday at 6:00 PM local time," M. Rizal told Xinhua. "Around 4:00 AM local time, the captain reported that the Nazila-05 had sunk. All crew members were able to evacuate themselves by boat, but their whereabouts remain unknown," he said.
