Astana, March 30 /Xinhua/ — Officers from the Kazakhstan Ministry of Internal Affairs' Committee for Combating Drug Crime have dismantled a major drug trafficking ring from the country's southern regions, Kazinform reported on Monday, citing Polisia.kz.
During an operational operation on the Zhezkazgan-Karaganda highway, five individuals involved in drug trafficking were detained. During a search of the vehicle, 13 packages of marijuana, weighing over 300 kg, were seized. According to preliminary estimates, this represents up to a million single doses with an estimated black market value of up to $3 million.
The suspects are being held in a temporary detention facility. According to Daniyar Meirkhan, Chairman of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Committee for Combating Drug Crime, efforts to curb drug trafficking will continue in accordance with the law.
