Tokyo, March 29 (Xinhua) — Hundreds of Japanese citizens gathered for a rally in Tokyo's bustling Shinjuku district on Saturday evening. They demanded that Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's government apologize to China for the incident in which a Self-Defense Forces officer forcibly entered the Chinese Embassy on Tuesday.
Participants held signs and chanted slogans such as "Apologize for the Self-Defense Forces officer's terrible act," "Take responsibility for the terrible incident," and "We apologize to China on behalf of the government."
The Chinese Embassy in Japan reported that a man who identified himself as an active Self-Defense Forces officer climbed over a fence and entered the embassy grounds on Tuesday morning, where he threatened to kill Chinese diplomats.
The Chinese side sent a serious representation to Japan and expressed a strong protest, demanding a responsible explanation of the incident.
So far, the Japanese government has only called the incident "regrettable." It has neither apologized nor announced any specific measures to hold those responsible accountable.
