BEIJING, March 29 (Xinhua) — The two-day Second China-Russia International Elite Cheerleading Tournament of the 2026 China-SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) Winter Sports Demonstration Zone kicked off on Saturday in Harbin, capital of Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province.
According to the Harbin Daily newspaper, approximately 300 athletes from six Russian federal subjects and over 1,400 Chinese athletes from five Chinese cities are participating in the event. It's worth noting that the competition includes a special group for athletes with disabilities.
According to the organizer, this competition, drawing on Harbin's advantages as a key city in the China-SCO Winter Sports Demonstration Zone, aims not only to create a high-quality platform for Chinese and Russian youth to compete and showcase their talents, but also to use sports exchanges as a bridge to deepen friendship between the two countries' youth, promote mutual understanding between the peoples of the SCO countries, and facilitate the integration and mutual enrichment of the SCO countries' sports cultures.
The event was organized by the Heilongjiang Provincial Student Physical Education and Sports Association and the Provincial Cheerleading Committee. -0-
