ISLAMABAD, March 28 (Xinhua) — Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday briefed Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Islamabad's ongoing diplomatic efforts to create a conducive environment for peace talks amid escalating regional hostilities, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office.
During a telephone conversation that lasted more than an hour, the leaders discussed in detail the developing situation in the Middle East and the efforts being undertaken to restore peace.
Sh. Sharif briefed the Iranian President on Pakistan's diplomatic efforts to engage the United States, Gulf countries and other Islamic countries to facilitate dialogue.
According to the statement, he stressed "strong support for Pakistan's peace initiative" and expressed hope that collective efforts could help identify a viable path to ending hostilities.
The Prime Minister also reiterated his condemnation of Israel's ongoing attacks on Iran, including recent strikes on civilian infrastructure, and expressed condolences over the loss of life.
The Iranian President, while appreciating Pakistan's diplomatic efforts, shared Iran's view on the ongoing military actions and stressed the importance of building trust to facilitate negotiations and mediation, the statement said.
