NEW DELHI, March 28 (Xinhua) — At least eight people were killed and 20 others injured when a pickup truck carrying Hindu pilgrims collided with a trailer in India's northern Uttar Pradesh state.

The accident took place on the highway in the Saini police station area of Kaushambi district, about 151 km south of Lucknow, the state capital.

According to senior police officer Rajesh Kumar, the pilgrims were returning from a temple where a ritual was being held for their newborn child.
