Ürümqi, March 27 (Xinhua) — More than 2,000 China-Europe/Central Asia freight trains have passed through the Alashankou Port, making it the largest port on the China-Europe route in the country, according to local customs officials.
As the "first corridor" for China-Europe freight trains, the Alashankou Port has implemented a "smart railway port plus expedited customs clearance" model. This allows trains to clear customs immediately upon entry, significantly simplifying the clearance process.
The train inspection model has been transformed from traditional "car-by-car manual inspection" to "non-invasive intelligent surveillance," increasing the efficiency of train inspections by an average of 70%. Customs clearance and inspection processes are now continuous.
According to customs officials, train downtime at checkpoints has been significantly reduced, and customs clearance costs for businesses have also been significantly reduced. This year, the number of China-Europe/Central Asia freight trains overseen by Alashankou Customs reached 2,000, 19 days earlier than last year. The daily maximum also set a new all-time high, reaching 35 trains.
"We are making every effort to ensure the safe and timely departure of every freight train outbound, supporting international economic and trade exchanges through efficient transportation services. Currently, the average daily number of trains passing through the checkpoint has reached 23," said an official from the Urumqi branch of China Railways (CR).
As a reminder, China-Europe and China-Central Asia freight trains currently operate through the Alashankou checkpoint on 128 routes, linking China with 21 countries, including Germany and Poland. The goods transported exceed 200 categories, including auto parts, electronics, and consumer goods.
