Moscow, March 27 (Xinhua) — The first meeting of the Russian State Duma delegation with U.S. congressmen in Washington went better than expected. State Duma deputy and head of the Russian delegation, Vyacheslav Nikonov, announced this on his Telegram channel on Thursday following the talks.
Russian Ambassador to the United States Alexander Darchiev also called the Russian parliamentary delegation's talks with members of the US Congress successful. Speaking to RIA Novosti, he said there is hope for restoring dialogue between the two countries' legislative bodies, and the delegation will continue working contacts tomorrow.
This is the first trip by State Duma deputies to the United States in recent years. In 2014, interparliamentary ties with countries that imposed sanctions against Russia were suspended.
