The official ceremony of handing over the technical rehabilitation equipment took place in Kaliningrad on March 26.

"This is the second time we've handed over the keys to specialized vehicles for veterans of the SVO at this venue, so you can travel more comfortably and affordably throughout our region. Providing these technical rehabilitation aids is one of the most important areas of support for our soldiers, an example of the combined efforts of the Fatherland Defenders Foundation and our business. The government, for its part, supported the acquisition of adaptive vehicles for the regional branch of DOSAAF. We will continue this program with AVTOTOR. We value your feedback after using the vehicles, so we can improve their technical specifications and expand their options for your comfort," Governor Alexey Besprozvannykh noted, addressing the soldiers.

BAIC U5 PLUS sedans with manual controls for people with disabilities were presented to three special military operation participants: Sergei Gavrilov, Armen Arakelyan, and Yuri Ilyin, who were seriously wounded while performing combat missions.

"The Fatherland Defenders Foundation has already donated over 400 vehicles to our defenders across the country. We've received support from driving schools, which provide retraining, and from our auto industry. And in our region alone, we've already donated six vehicles to seriously wounded veterans of the Soviet Military District," said Raisa Krivchenkova, head of the Fatherland Defenders Foundation's Kaliningrad branch.

Alexey Besprozvannykh noted that the development of specialized transport for people with disabilities will expand employers' opportunities to employ SVO participants and provide small and medium-sized businesses with the necessary personnel.

Ruslan Sadykov, President and CEO of the AVTOTOR production complex, expressed gratitude to the Fatherland Defenders Foundation and the Governor for their systematic work and emphasized that the vehicle lineup is expanding and the program is being further developed: "It's especially important that this ceremony is taking place today in the Kaliningrad Region—the home of AVTOTOR's production facility, where these vehicles are manufactured, adapted, and given a new social mission. It's crucial for us not only to produce these vehicles but also to create the conditions for people to confidently use them. Participating in such projects isn't just a production task, but part of our responsibility: to create modern, affordable, and adaptable vehicles that help people maintain mobility, independence, and quality of life."

Previously, AVTOTOR also produced a batch of manually operated vehicles—SWM G01 crossovers—at the request of the Fatherland Defenders Foundation. In 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the Fatherland Defenders Foundation's proposal to provide manually operated vehicles to veterans of the Second World War with severe amputees. The necessary amendments were made to the federal law "On the Social Protection of Disabled Persons in the Russian Federation." The manually operated vehicle is issued as a technical rehabilitation aid.
