By the end of the year, 11 modern Ivolga 4.0 electric trains will be purchased for the Yaroslavl line. This will bring the fleet's total fleet up to 34 percent. This was announced by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry. Maxim Liksutov.
"Following Sergei Sobyanin's instructions, we continue to upgrade the rolling stock on the Yaroslavl line, which carries an average of over 300,000 trips daily. It's important to us that passengers travel on modern and comfortable electric trains: the Ivolga 4.0 has already set a new standard of quality. We plan to purchase a total of 92 modern trains for the Yaroslavl line by 2030, thereby increasing the renewal rate to 100 percent. This will reduce the average age of the train fleet on the Yaroslavl line to 3.5 years," noted Maxim Liksutov.
Today, the Yaroslavl line's train fleet has been updated by 22 percent. The first modern trains will be in service in the summer of 2025. This is the result of a tremendous amount of work. Moscow Department of Transport, carrier JSC Central Suburban Passenger Company and manufacturer JSC TMH.
The Ivolga is a modern electric train model designed specifically for the Moscow Central Diameters (MCD). During its service on the MCD, passengers have repeatedly noted its advantages over older commuter trains. The latest version, the Ivolga 4.0, features 15 percent wider doors and a 45 percent wider aisle, allowing passengers to board and disembark more quickly. The increased capacity allows it to carry nearly 100 more passengers. Other key differences from older trains include a third door in the intermediate cars and conveniently located door release buttons. Furthermore, the headrests and handrails have been changed to blackberry and mint, and the front of the train has been darkened and simplified.
As part of the rolling stock upgrade on the Yaroslavl line this year, five modern EP2DM trains will also be added. Before entering service, all trains will undergo running-in.
The trains have been equipped with more stylish, modern, and ergonomic seats, media screens, additional handrails, and adjustable warmth and brightness lighting in the passenger compartments. Mint and gray shades have been added to the interior color scheme, and the flooring has been made darker and more practical.
Additionally, signs were installed above the exit doors, bicycle racks were upgraded, and standing rails and trash bins were added to the vestibules. The restrooms were reconfigured, touchless equipment was installed, and a changing table was added for passengers with children.
The new EP2DM trains have a new paint job on the front of the cars, and additional LED lights—those "eyelashes" that make the trains easy to recognize—have been added.
