The Moscow Metro has begun preparations for the summer season. First and foremost, the second doors in the metro's vestibules will be removed: more than 6,000 will be removed by May. This will help regulate the temperature and increase air exchange, ensuring passengers are comfortable even in hot weather.
Furthermore, specialists have already switched the tunnel ventilation system to spring mode. Several years ago, they completed a complete upgrade of the ventilation shaft equipment: the new fans reduce summer temperatures by two to three degrees and increase air exchange by 30 percent.
"Twice a year, the Moscow Metro prepares its infrastructure for the changing seasons—summer and winter. Work begins early to ensure comfortable temperatures in stations and on trains as the weather changes. Over eight million trips are made on the Moscow Metro on a weekday, so we carefully monitor passenger comfort throughout the year. Furthermore, the share of new trains in the metro has already reached 80 percent—modern, high-tech Russian-made trains equipped with powerful air conditioning systems," said the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.
Air conditioning in public transit vehicles will soon be switched to summer mode. Station entrances, facades, cladding, glazing, and surrounding areas will undergo a thorough cleaning, including washing and cleaning.
