Tehran, March 26 (Xinhua) — Tehran and Washington recently exchanged messages through intermediaries, but no talks have taken place since the US and Israeli strikes on Iran began in late February, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in an interview with state television channel IRIB on Wednesday.

"A few days ago, the American side began sending various messages through various intermediaries. When messages are transmitted to us through friendly countries, and we respond by stating our positions or issuing necessary warnings, this cannot be called either negotiations or dialogue. We are simply exchanging messages through our friends, and we are reiterating our principled positions," he said.

According to him, Iran warned the United States in a number of messages about the inadmissibility of attacks on its infrastructure, which, as A. Araghchi claims, led to Washington abandoning its plans to strike Iranian energy facilities within 48 hours.

The Foreign Minister noted that Iran does not seek war and advocates its end, but "in a way that prevents it from happening again." However, Tehran does not support the idea of a ceasefire, considering it a return to the "vicious cycle" of negotiations, war, and truce, and insists on ending the conflict "on its own terms," Araghchi added.

He stressed that Iran's current policy is to continue resistance and defend the country, with no plans for negotiations.

Commenting on the situation around the Strait of Hormuz, A. Araghchi stated that it is considered part of the territorial waters of Iran and Oman. Tehran is exploring "new mechanisms to ensure safe passage," he noted.
