Hanoi, March 25 (Xinhua) — Vietnam's rice exports are facing challenges as tensions in the Middle East are driving up transportation costs and insurance premiums, the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported on Wednesday.
Delivery times have increased by 10-15 days, and domestic shipping costs have increased by 20,000-30,000 Vietnamese dong (US$0.8-1.2), VNA reports, citing Nguyen Anh Son, Director of the Department of Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam.
Exporters are facing container shortages and changes to shipping routes, forcing traders to revise contracts, postpone shipments, or suspend new orders, VNA reports.
According to the forecast of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment of Vietnam, rice production in the country in 2026 will reach approximately 45.6 million tons, of which 7.73 million tons will be available for export. –0–
