HANGZHOU, March 24 (Xinhua) — Chinese robotics company Westlake Robotics unveiled the Titan o1 humanoid robot, equipped with its own large General Action Expert (GAE) model, which can imitate human movements in real time, without limitations in time and space.
This basic model allows dozens of robots to perform the same tasks simultaneously under the control of a single person, the company said.
Demonstrating the development in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, eastern China, a cameraman in a motion-capture suit waved his arms, turned, and kicked a ball, while the Titan o1 repeated each movement within milliseconds.
From the angle of rotation of the arm and torso to the length of the step and the height of the leg lift during the strike, the rhythm of the robot's movements completely matched the rhythm of the operator.
"These movements were a response to the operator's spontaneous actions in real time," explained Westlake Robotics founder Wang Donglin. He added that regardless of the operator's identity or how their movements change, the Titan o1 is able to quickly adapt and keep up.
In the human body, the cerebellum is responsible for motor coordination, maintaining balance, and ensuring precise, smooth movements. The GAE serves as a powerful "general-purpose cerebellum" for a humanoid robot, allowing it to instantly perform the most appropriate actions upon receiving a signal, regardless of whether those actions have been performed previously.
Additionally, GAE has inter-body adaptability, allowing this base model to be used in robots of various types and sizes, Westlake Robotics reported.
