BEIJING, March 24 (Xinhua) — China's government-subsidized program of providing consumer vouchers for elderly care services for people with moderate to severe disability has benefited more than 1.05 million elderly people.
The Ministry of Civil Affairs of China reported this on Tuesday.
According to the department, over three million consumer vouchers worth a total of 2.35 billion yuan (approximately 341 million US dollars) have been redeemed nationwide under the aforementioned program, which began on January 1, 2026, leading to an increase in the consumption of related services by 11.5 billion yuan.
Subsidies are paid monthly in the form of electronic coupons that can be used to pay for a wide range of health and household services at home, such as assistance with meals, mobility, hygiene, cleaning, emergency and medical care, as well as rehabilitation care and day care.
The ministry said that to expand the program's coverage, procedures will be simplified, service quality will be improved, and oversight of the program's implementation will be strengthened, allowing more elderly people to benefit from the country's reforms and development. -0-
