Moscow, March 23 /Xinhua/ — China is among the top three most popular foreign destinations for Russian tourists based on the number of tours booked for the May holidays, RIA Novosti reports, citing data from the online service Travelata.

According to Oleg Kozyrev, the service's Marketing Director, Turkey is the most popular destination among Russians, accounting for 53% of bookings. Egypt is second with 22%, and China is third with 6%. He added that China wasn't a popular destination last year, but after the visa regime was lifted, tourist flow to the country has increased significantly, RIA Novosti reports.

According to the service, the average cost of a trip during the May holidays is approximately 207,000 rubles to Turkey, 217,000 rubles to Egypt, and 204,000 rubles to China. Vietnam and Thailand are also among the most popular destinations, accounting for 4% of bookings each; the average cost of trips is 243,000 and 225,000 rubles, respectively.

According to Travelata analysts, Russians are less active in booking trips for the May holidays this year: the number has fallen by approximately 15 percent year-on-year. Among the factors cited is the tense situation in the Middle East, which is having a dampening effect on demand.
