Tehran, March 22 (Xinhua) — Vessels, except for "hostile" ones, are allowed to transit the Strait of Hormuz with coordinated security and safety measures, Iran's representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Ali Mousavi, said in a statement published by the Mehr news agency on Sunday.
He emphasized that international maritime obligations must be balanced with respect for Iran's territorial integrity and sovereign rights. Tehran is ready to cooperate with the IMO and other countries to enhance maritime security and protect seafarers, Mousavi noted.
"Diplomacy remains Iran's priority. However, a complete cessation of aggression, as well as mutual trust and confidence, are more important," he said, adding that US and Israeli attacks on the Islamic Republic are "the root cause of the current situation in the Persian Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz." –0–
