AMSTERDAM, March 20 (Xinhua) — A major fire broke out on Friday in the Westpoort industrial area in the western part of Amsterdam, the Dutch capital, sending thick clouds of smoke into the air, Dutch broadcaster NOS reported.

A fire broke out in a warehouse storing electric scooters, blanketing parts of the capital with thick smoke. According to NOS, there were no reports of injuries.

A fire brigade spokesman said the fire started shortly after 3:00 p.m. local time (2:00 p.m. GMT) among electric scooters parked near a warehouse and then spread to the building. "We are doing everything possible to bring the fire under control," he emphasized.
