BEIJING, March 19 (Xinhua) — China welcomes the temporary ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and Afghanistan, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Thursday.

Lin Jian made the statement at a regular departmental press conference after the two countries announced the suspension of military operations during the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

The diplomat said China hopes that the two countries will maintain composure and restraint, resume peace talks as soon as possible and achieve a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire, properly resolve differences through dialogue and jointly safeguard peace and stability between the two countries and in the region.

China highly appreciates the efforts made by relevant Islamic countries and is mediating the resolution of the conflict through its own channels, Lin Jian said, adding that China is willing to continue to play a constructive role in this. -0-
