In preparation for the opening of the underground transfer between the Akademicheskaya metro station on both lines and the new exit at Vavilovskaya on the Troitskaya line, specialists modernized digital signage and installed 10 screens capable of displaying dynamic information.
Instead of the traditional full-scale nighttime maintenance, the Troitskaya Line used deferred content loading technology for the first time. Developed by Russian IT engineers, this technology allowed passengers to see up-to-date information on screens the moment the underground transfer between Akademicheskaya station and exit No. 3 at Vavilovskaya station opened. This approach allowed Muscovites to plan the most convenient routes both before and after the new facilities opened.
"Over the past year, the number of digital navigation elements in the metro has more than doubled. Thanks to a domestic development, we implemented a deferred information loading technology. This allowed us to instantly update information on 59 Troitskaya Line station signs at the opening of transfers and exits, as well as implement a personalized approach by posting special messages. Furthermore, Akademicheskaya became the third station on this line to feature continuous exit numbering. We continue to develop digital navigation at the initiative of Sergei Sobyanin," noted the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.
With the opening of the transfer at Akademicheskaya, digital signs introduced sequential exit numbers. Now passengers can find the exit they need even if it's at a neighboring station with the same name. The number is displayed next to the name of the station to which the transfer is possible.
To inform passengers about the new convenient transfer between lines, a special message was added to the signs notifying them of the underground transfer option when traveling to the neighboring station. A similar announcement also announces the opening of the new exit #3 from Vavilovskaya. This is another advantage of digital wayfinding: signs can flexibly combine primary and secondary information by varying the arrangement of text and graphic blocks.
Furthermore, references to the ground-level transfer have been removed from all digital navigation elements. This has allowed for larger font sizes for the names of points of interest located near the stations. Signs installed directly in the underpass not only indicate the direction to the adjacent line but also show the names of facilities at the shared exits of both stations.
