BEIJING, March 18 (Xinhua) — The Chinese mainland is ready to provide Taiwan compatriots with stable and reliable energy supplies after peaceful reunification is achieved, Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said on Wednesday.
He made the statement at a regular press conference in response to a question about the possible risks of disruptions in oil and gas supplies in Taiwan, as well as widespread concerns on the island about energy reserves and the security of their supplies against the backdrop of the turbulent situation in the Middle East.
Peaceful reunification will create enormous opportunities for Taiwan's socio-economic development and bring tangible benefits to compatriots on the island, Chen Binhua said.
After peaceful reunification, the interconnectedness between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait will be fully realized, making it entirely possible to solve Taiwan's shortage of electricity, natural gas, and crude oil, Chen Binhua noted, adding that mainland China will also provide Taiwanese compatriots with more affordable, environmentally friendly, and stable energy supplies.
