BEIJING, March 17 (Xinhua) — China is ready to provide assistance to the people of Ethiopia affected by the natural disaster and support reconstruction efforts within its capabilities, taking into account the needs of the country, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said at a regular press conference on Tuesday.
Recently, heavy rains in southern Ethiopia triggered mudflows and landslides, resulting in numerous casualties and significant property damage. More than 100 people are reported to have died as a result of the disaster.
“We express our deepest condolences over the loss of life and sincere sympathy to the families who lost their loved ones,” the Chinese diplomat noted.
“We believe that under the leadership of the Ethiopian government, the people of the disaster-affected areas will overcome the consequences of the disaster and soon rebuild their homes,” he added. -0-
