Beijing, March 17 (Xinhua) — China's electricity consumption, a barometer of economic activity, exceeded 1.65 trillion kWh in the first two months of 2026, up 6.1 percent year-on-year, according to data released Tuesday by the National Energy Administration.

Detailed data shows steady growth across various sectors.

Electricity consumption in the primary sector of the economy increased by 7.4 percent, reaching 22.3 billion kWh.

The secondary sector accounted for approximately 1.03 trillion kWh, up 6.3 percent year-on-year, while the tertiary sector recorded an 8.3 percent increase in consumption to 323.1 billion kWh.

Over the same period, electricity consumption by the country's population increased by 2.7 percent year-on-year, amounting to 281.3 billion kWh. -0-
