Almaty, March 16 (Xinhua) — The Central Referendum Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan announced the preliminary results of the vote and declared the referendum on the new Constitution valid. It announced this on its website on Monday.

According to preliminary data as of the morning of March 16, 7,954,667 citizens voted in favor of adopting the new Constitution of Kazakhstan, representing 87.15 percent of the total referendum participants. The commission reported turnout at 73.12 percent. A total of 9,127,192 people participated in the vote. 898,099 voted against. 146,558 ballots were invalidated.
