Moscow, March 16 (Xinhua) — Moscow's air defense system shot down another unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) heading toward Moscow, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced on Monday via the Max messaging app.
"Another drone attack has been repelled. Emergency services are working at the site of the crash," Sergei Sobyanin wrote.
According to him, on March 16, from 02:00 Moscow time, a total of 49 UAVs were destroyed.
As Dmitry Kuzyakin, an expert in the field of unmanned aircraft and the general designer of the Center for Integrated Unmanned Solutions, told TASS, the Ukrainian long-range kamikaze drones Firepoint-1 (FP-1), which have been attacking Moscow for the past three days, are based on the design of the German reconnaissance aircraft "Rama" (Fw 189).
"It's essentially a Shahed, but with a classic wing design—a rectangular wing with a tail. The FP-1 is considered no worse or better than all other UAVs in the third technological league, which is what has allowed Russia to successfully repel Ukrainian attacks in recent days," explained D. Kuzyakin.
Earlier, TASS, citing its own calculations, reported that the Ukrainian drone attack on the Moscow region, which was repelled by the Russian Ministry of Defense's air defense forces on March 14-16, was the largest in at least a year. –0–
