WASHINGTON, March 16 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that American forces had sunk all Iranian minelayers, but it remained unclear whether Iran had begun laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world's oil passes.

“We don’t know if they installed anything,” D. Trump said at a press conference.

"By destroying more than 30 minelayers, we have, as far as we know, destroyed all of their minelayers," the American president said, noting that Iran can now load mines onto other types of ships and lay them in the strait.

As D. Trump reported, the American military struck more than 7,000 targets on Iranian territory and “destroyed literally everything” on Iran’s Kharg Island, with the exception of oil facilities.

"As you know, we attacked Kharg Island… literally destroyed everything on the island, except for the oil zone. I call it the pipes," he explained.
