BEIJING, March 14 (Xinhua) — China's marine economy is expected to reach nearly 11.02 trillion yuan (about 1.6 trillion U.S. dollars) in 2025, up 5.5 percent from 2024, according to data released by the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) on Friday.

According to the data, this figure amounted to 7.9 percent of the country's GDP, which is 0.1 percentage points more than in the previous year.

The share of added value in the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors of the maritime industry accounted for 4.5 percent, 37.2 percent and 58.3 percent of the gross marine product, respectively, the data show.

China's marine economy withstood the pressure and maintained high-quality development in 2025, thanks to a faster transition to improved quality and efficiency, increased innovation in marine science and technology, and comprehensive development and protection of the marine environment, said Shen Jun, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Natural Resources.

According to her, the total volume of marine aquatic product production in China has been ranked first in the world for many years in a row, and the country has also maintained its leading position in terms of the size of its ports.

The country's maritime and container shipping volumes exceeded a third of the global total, while China accounts for more than 50 percent of the global shipbuilding and marine engineering equipment market.

Shen Jun added that China's new and accumulated offshore wind capacity accounts for more than half of the global total. -0-
