Moscow, March 13 (Xinhua) — Russia hopes to resolve the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant issue during the Ukraine talks. This was stated on Friday by Alexey Likhachev, Director General of the Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom, following interagency consultations between Russia and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held in Moscow.

"Of course, we very much hope that certain decisions will be reached during the multilateral negotiations between Russia, the United States, and Ukraine," RIA Novosti quotes him as saying.

The head of Rosatom called the IAEA the only UN organization that has maintained impartiality and professionalism, and noted the agency's special role in negotiations on Ukraine. "I would like to emphasize the agency's crucial role in developing new international agreements and understandings," he said.

A. Likhachev also reported that during consultations, representatives of the IAEA and Rosatom discussed issues of physical protection of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, and the Russian side informed them of its absolute control over the plant's condition.

In turn, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi stated that agency specialists have been working at the Zaporizhzhia NPP for five years now, under the challenging conditions of a military conflict, and this has not prevented them from establishing joint work with the Russian side. He called the exchange of views with the head of Rosatom "comprehensive and timely." "The IAEA's international support and assistance mission at the Zaporizhzhia NPP remains crucial to preventing a nuclear accident," he wrote on his social media page.
