BEIJING, March 13 (Xinhua) — The BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BeiDou) will soon undergo in-orbit upgrades to provide better services, the China Satellite Navigation Office (CSNO) said.
The upcoming process will optimize the operational status of some satellites. CSNO pledged to continuously improve the coordination and testing of satellites in orbit, as well as monitor and maintain the system's performance to ensure a positive user experience.
BeiDou is a mature, fully functional, and high-performance global navigation satellite system, currently with 50 operational satellites in orbit. It is capable of providing global positioning accuracy of up to 10 meters, velocity measurement accuracy of up to 0.2 meters per second, and time synchronization accuracy of within 20 nanoseconds, according to CSNO.
Thanks to the PPP (Precise Point Positioning) service, the Beidou system ensures horizontal positioning accuracy of up to 0.3 m and vertical positioning accuracy of up to 0.6 m.
The system is already deeply integrated into China's economic and social life and provides high-precision positioning, navigation, and timing services to its users on a continuous basis, CSNO stated. -0-
