BEIJING, March 11 (Xinhua) — Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson Jiang Bin on Wednesday called on relevant parties to immediately cease military operations in the Middle East and return to dialogue and negotiations.

Jiang Bin made the statement while responding to a media question about the recent military strikes carried out by the US and Israel on Iran.

Stressing that such military strikes, which were carried out without a UN Security Council mandate and against the backdrop of the Iran-US negotiation process, seriously violated international law and the basic norms of international relations, Jiang Bin stated that China firmly opposes actions that violate the sovereignty and security of other countries, as well as the abuse of military force and the "law of the jungle."

He warned that there are no winners in prolonging or even escalating the conflict, and that this will only push the Middle East towards a dangerous abyss, causing even more suffering for the people of the region.

The most urgent task at this time is for the parties concerned to immediately cease military operations and make joint efforts to maintain peace and stability in the Middle East and the world, Jiang Bin concluded. -0-
