Bishkek, March 11 (Xinhua) — An exhibition of Chinese paintings titled "Free Flight of a Horse – The Spirit of Chinese Ink Painting" opened at the National History Museum of the Kyrgyz Republic in Bishkek on Tuesday.
Speaking at the event, Marat Tagaev, Deputy Minister of Culture, Information, and Youth Policy of Kyrgyzstan, noted that the exhibition is a significant cultural event that contributes to strengthening humanitarian ties and mutual understanding between the peoples of Kyrgyzstan and China. "I am confident that this exhibition will become an important platform for cultural dialogue, allow a wider audience to become more familiar with the traditions of Chinese fine art, and contribute to the further development of cultural cooperation between our countries," he added.
In an interview with Xinhua, Chinese artist Xu Han said that 2026 is the Year of the Horse according to the Chinese lunar calendar. This animal holds significant symbolic significance in the cultures of both countries, the artist noted. "We hope that through this exhibition, more and more people will be able to learn more about Chinese painting and Chinese culture," he said.
The exhibition features approximately 50 works by renowned Chinese ink wash painters. The event not only introduces local audiences to the profound poetry of Chinese painting but also demonstrates the friendship between the peoples of the two countries.
Nuska Kubanycheva, a third-year student at the M. Ryskulbekov Kyrgyz University of Economics and an enthusiast of Chinese culture, was among those attending the event. She thoroughly enjoyed the exhibition. "I looked at the paintings and saw that all the horses were different. That impressed me," she shared.
The event, which runs until March 24, is jointly organized by the Chinese Cultural Center in Bishkek, the National History Museum of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Center for Cultural and Tourist Exchanges of China with Foreign Countries, and the Beijing Association of Investment and Finance in the Cultural Industry.
