THE HAGUE, March 10 (Xinhua) — Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen announced on Tuesday that the Dutch embassy will be temporarily moved from the Iranian capital Tehran to the Azerbaijani capital Baku due to increased security risks for diplomatic mission staff.
In a letter sent to the House of Representatives (lower house of parliament) of the Netherlands, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the country's ambassador to Iran and embassy staff had arrived in Baku, where they would continue their work.
"We are closely monitoring developments in Iran. If the security situation allows, a decision will be made on how and in what form the Dutch Embassy's operations in Tehran can resume," the diplomat added.
The Dutch Embassy in Tehran has been temporarily closed to visitors since March 2026 and can therefore no longer issue visas. –0–
