At the Gorky Film Studio, subordinate to the capital Department of Culture, regularly offers excursions for the whole family. There are 13 programs in various formats to choose from.
Costumes and creative workshops
Visitors can expect educational quests that reveal the secrets of filmmaking, tours featuring rare archival materials and film footage, themed routes, and audio promenades.
Each excursion begins with a concept. The tour guide then develops the route, determines the group's stops, and builds a program tailored to the group's age range.
New features include combining tours with creative workshops. For example, as part of the "Kingdom of Fairytale Costumes" program, participants not only learn the secrets of the sewing workshop but also try their hand at being a costume designer, creating outfits using ribbons, beads, lace, and colored paper. The tour is offered on a regular basis by appointment only, please call 7 (499) 181-03-59 or email excursions@gorky-film.ru.
Each tour begins with a story about the film studio's history. On the tour "The Passage of Time: From the Rus Film Studio to the Gorky Film Studio," guests will stroll through legendary corridors, peer into the screening room where films were approved by the USSR Goskino commission, see the studio with its green screen, and examine exhibits including photo test albums, director's scripts, and behind-the-scenes photos. Visitors will also see costumes from the studio's films, including "The Youth of Peter," "A Hero of Our Time," "Anna on the Neck," and "Morozko." This tour is offered regularly by appointment only, please call 7 (499) 181-03-59 or email excursions@gorky-film.ru.
In good weather, tour groups head to the "Walk of Stars" near the film studio building, where outdoor stands displaying movie posters are located. A monument to the creators of "Seventeen Moments of Spring" is also located in the square near the studio. The sculpture depicts writer and screenwriter Yulian Semenov, director Tatyana Lioznova, and the lead actor, Vyacheslav Tikhonov.
"The groups come in all shapes and sizes. Some are interested in learning more about the technology, while others are captivated by stories about costume designers. Older visitors are often interested in the stories of Tatyana Lioznova, Stanislav Rostotsky, and Alexander Rowe. But everyone, without exception, wants to learn about the modern filmmaking process and get the chance to experience the other side of the screen," said Natalya Egorova, tour guide.

Programs can be tailored not only to interests but also to age. For elementary school students, we've created a quest tour called "Secrets of the Film Studio! In Search of the Golden Lion." A new format among the programs this year is the audio promenade—an immersive tour called "She Conquers Cinema." The route leads to the building of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography, from which the director graduated in 1949. Returning to the film studio, guests visit the screening room and projectionist's room, see fragments of the film, costumes, and photo tests of actors. Tours are held every Saturday.
