Moscow, March 10 (Xinhua) — Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump. According to Putin's aide, Yuri Ushakov, the hour-long conversation, initiated by the US side, focused on the conflicts surrounding Iran and Ukraine, as well as the situation in Venezuela.
Yesterday's telephone conversation between the Russian and US presidents was the 11th since Donald Trump returned to the White House in early 2025, TASS reports. This is the first conversation between the two leaders in more than two months and, among other things, their first contact since the US and Israeli attacks on Iran.
"Donald Trump called Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin to discuss a number of critical issues related to the current developments in the international situation," noted Yury Ushakov. He added that the focus was on the situation surrounding the conflict with Iran and the ongoing trilateral negotiations on a Ukrainian settlement, which include US representatives. The conversation was businesslike, frank, and constructive.
During the telephone conversation, Vladimir Putin expressed a number of ideas aimed at a speedy political and diplomatic resolution of the Iranian conflict, including in light of his contacts with the leaders of the Persian Gulf states, the President of Iran, and the leaders of several other countries. The US President, for his part, "gave his assessment of the developments in the context of the ongoing American-Israeli operation."
D. Trump expressed interest in ending the conflict in Ukraine "with a swift ceasefire and a long-term settlement," Y. Ushakov reported.
Vladimir Putin noted that the successful advance of Russian troops into the Northeast Military District should encourage the Kyiv regime to resolve the conflict through negotiations. "This, as has been noted, is a factor that should encourage the Kyiv regime to finally take the path to a negotiated settlement of the conflict," the presidential aide emphasized.
In addition, the presidents discussed the situation surrounding Venezuela, primarily in terms of the state of affairs on the global oil market.
"Overall, I repeat that the conversation was very informative and will undoubtedly have practical significance for the two countries' future work in various areas of international politics," said Yuri Ushakov.
At a press conference in Florida, D. Trump said that on Monday he had a "very good" telephone conversation with Russian leader V. Putin regarding the Ukrainian crisis and the American-Israeli operation against Iran, noting that his Russian counterpart "wants to help" resolve the situation in the Middle East.
“We had a very good conversation, and he wants to be very constructive,” said D. Trump.
Kirill Dmitriev, the Russian President's Special Representative for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), stated that the telephone conversation between the two leaders was constructive, and that possible solutions for resolving the Iranian and Ukrainian conflicts were discussed.
