Beijing, March 10 (Xinhua) — China calls for an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East and the search for a political solution, supporting the Persian Gulf states in taking the region's future and destiny into their own hands, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Tuesday.

Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks during a telephone conversation with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani briefed the Chinese side on the situation in the region and Qatar's position. He stated that Qatar was forced to take necessary self-defense measures while simultaneously intensifying diplomatic efforts to prevent the spread and escalation of the crisis.

The Qatari Foreign Minister praised China's fair and impartial position and its mediation efforts, expressing hope that the Chinese side will play an even greater role in facilitating a ceasefire and a ceasefire.

Wang Yi, in turn, emphasized that China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, always adheres to principles and defends honesty and justice in international affairs.

As the Chinese diplomat pointed out, the military operations of the US and Israel against Iran, carried out without the authorization of the UN Security Council, are a clear violation of the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and the basic norms of international relations.

At the same time, China does not approve of the expansion of the scale of strikes and condemns indiscriminate attacks on civilians and non-military targets, the Chinese Foreign Minister emphasized, adding that the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf must be respected.

According to him, continuing the war would harm everyone and benefit no one, only leading to greater losses for all parties involved. Wang Yi assured that China would continue to play a constructive role in its own way in easing tensions and restoring peace.
