Washington, March 9 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump said he had a "very good" phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday regarding the Ukrainian crisis and the U.S.-Israeli operation against Iran, noting that his Russian counterpart "wants to help" resolve the situation in the Middle East.

“We had a very good conversation, and he wants to be very constructive,” D. Trump said at a press conference in Florida.

The White House chief said that during the first phone call since the start of the US-Israeli operation against Iran, the leaders discussed the Ukrainian crisis, which has been going on for five years.

According to the American president, it was a “positive call on this topic.”

Earlier on Monday, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said the two leaders' conversation was businesslike, frank, and constructive, and lasted about an hour.

Yury Ushakov noted that the Russian president expressed his views on resolving the Iranian conflict, including following his conversations with the leaders of the Persian Gulf countries and the Iranian president. Donald Trump, in turn, gave his assessment of the situation.

The leaders of the two countries also touched on the topic of Venezuela “in the context of the situation on the global oil market,” Y. Ushakov reported.

Also on Monday, Vladimir Putin stated that Russia “has repeatedly warned that attempts to destabilize the situation in the Middle East will inevitably jeopardize” the global energy market, leading to higher prices and supply constraints. –0–
