Ankara, March 9 (Xinhua) — Turkey's Foreign Ministry summoned Iran's ambassador on Monday following an incident involving a ballistic missile fired from the Islamic Republic toward Turkey, Turkish state broadcaster TRT reported.

"The Iranian ambassador to Ankara was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide an explanation regarding the ballistic missile launched from Iranian territory towards Turkey," TRT quotes anonymous sources in the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

Turkey's Defense Ministry said earlier on Monday that a missile from Iran was successfully intercepted over Turkey's southeastern Gaziantep province.
