TEHRAN, March 9 (Xinhua) — Mojtaba Khamenei, son of Ali Khamenei, has been elected as Iran's new Supreme Leader, Iran's Assembly of Experts announced Sunday.
In its statement, the council confirmed the election of M. Khamenei as the country's third supreme leader, citing the "decisive vote of the distinguished representatives" of the assembly.
M. Khamenei, born in 1969, is the son of the late Supreme Leader of Iran, A. Khamenei, who was killed in joint US-Israeli strikes on Iranian territory on February 28. –0–
