Beijing, March 9 (Xinhua) — The sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of all countries must be respected, and any attacks on civilians and non-military targets must be condemned, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Monday.

Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the statement during a telephone conversation with Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdel Latif bin Rashed al-Zayani.

Bahrain's Foreign Minister briefed Wang Yi on the situation in the region and the kingdom's position, stating that Bahrain is a peace-loving country and should not become the target of unlawful attacks.

According to him, the Bahraini side highly appreciates China's fair position and is grateful for it, wishing to work with other Gulf states and China to strengthen communication and coordination in both bilateral and multilateral formats, including the UN, in order to achieve peace and stability in the region in the near future.

Abdel Latif bin Rashed Al Zayani added that Bahrain will continue to take decisive measures to ensure the safety of Chinese employees and institutions in the kingdom.

Wang Yi, for his part, noted that the situation in the Persian Gulf region is rapidly deteriorating, which is also affecting Bahrain's security. According to the Chinese Foreign Minister, this is a source of deep concern for China.

As he pointed out, China has always maintained a consistent and clear position: the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of all countries must be respected, and any attacks on civilians and non-military targets must be condemned.

Wang Yi stressed that the highest priority now is to immediately end military action to prevent further spread of the conflict.

According to the Chinese diplomat, the path out of the current situation lies in the immediate resumption of dialogue and negotiations to make efforts to restore peace. He added that the long-term solution lies in the joint adherence of all parties to international law and the basic norms of international relations.

China, as a strategic partner of the Gulf states and a responsible major country, has been continuously and actively promoting reconciliation and ending wars, Wang Yi pointed out.

He noted that the Chinese government's special envoy for the Middle East is currently on a shuttle diplomacy mission to the region and will visit Bahrain. The Chinese Foreign Minister assured that China will continue to play a constructive role in ensuring peace and stability in the Persian Gulf region.

Wang Yi also expressed hope that the Bahraini side will continue to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens and institutions in Bahrain. –0–
