BEIJING, March 8 (Xinhua) — The key to the stable and successful development of China-EU relations is for Europe to develop a correct perception of China, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Sunday.
Since last year, relations between China and European countries have been gaining momentum again, Wang Yi said, adding that the total bilateral trade volume has exceeded US$1 trillion and more than 2 million European tourists have arrived in China using the visa-free regime.
European leaders have also made successive visits to China, and a number of new cooperation agreements have been reached, Wang Yi said at a press conference during the ongoing 4th session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC).
Facts have shown that the stability of Chinese-European relations is due to the presence of common interests, and their certainty is based on mutual benefit, he added.
According to the head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, China has consistently believed that Europe is an important force maintaining the stability of the international order and a key partner in China's modernization.
Noting that the essence of Chinese-European trade and economic relations lies in the complementarity of advantages, Wang Yi said: “The interdependence of China and Europe does not bring risks, the intertwining of interests does not pose a threat, openness and cooperation do not undermine economic security, and the erection of barriers only leads to self-isolation.” -0-
