Dubai, March 7 (Xinhua) — A powerful explosion was heard in Dubai on Saturday evening. UAE authorities said the sounds were caused by the interception of missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) from Iran.
In a statement published on the X social media platform, the UAE Ministry of Defense confirmed that the sounds heard in various parts of the country were caused by air defense systems intercepting ballistic missiles, as well as fighter jets intercepting UAVs and loitering munitions.
The agency urged the public to remain in safe places and follow official updates.
Earlier, the UAE Ministry of Interior issued an emergency mobile phone alert warning residents of a potential missile threat and urging them to seek shelter immediately.
According to Dubai's Public Relations Authority, debris from the interception fell on the facade of a tower in the Dubai Marina area, but there were no injuries.
