BEIJING, March 5 (Xinhua) — The Chinese economy demonstrated high resilience to stress over the past year, according to a government work report submitted Thursday to the fourth session of the 14th National People's Congress.

In 2025, China's GDP will reach 140.19 trillion yuan (about $20.28 trillion), an increase of 5 percent year-on-year, the report said.

Last year, significant achievements were made in scientific and technological innovation. In particular, China became a global leader in research, development, and practical applications in artificial intelligence, biomedicine, biopharmaceuticals, robotics, and quantum technologies.

The energy intensity of GDP decreased by 5.1 percent, and the environmental situation consistently improved, the document states.

China's gains over the past year have not come easy, as it has faced both external shocks and challenges and domestic problems, including a lack of drivers for consumption and investment growth, the report notes. -0-
