BEIJING, March 4 (Xinhua) — China's environmental code will further strengthen the legal basis for realizing the country's modernization that ensures the harmonious coexistence of man and nature, Lou Qingjian, spokesperson for the fourth session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC), said at a press conference on Wednesday.
During the session, Chinese legislators will discuss a draft environmental code.
China's legal system in the field of ecology and environment, as well as the institutional system in the field of ecological civilization, have basically been formed, Lou Qinjian said.
He said that as China enters a stage of high-quality socio-economic development characterized by the transition to a green and low-carbon transformation, there is an urgent need for the strongest institutions and rule of law to protect the environment and promote green development.
