BEIJING, March 4 (Xinhua) — The fourth session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) opened in Beijing on Wednesday.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and other top Party and state leaders, including Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi and Han Zheng, attended the opening session at the Great Hall of the People.
The agenda for the current session was reviewed and approved at the meeting.
During the upcoming session, more than 2,000 members of the CPPCC National Committee will conduct in-depth consultations and discussions, actively make comments and suggestions, based on the decisions and orders of the CPC Central Committee and focusing on the formulation and implementation of the main provisions of the 15th Five-Year Plan for National Social and Economic Development (2026-2030).
Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee Wang Huning delivered a work report on the Bureau of the 14th CPPCC National Committee.
He summed up the work of the CPPCC over the past year, noting that the CPPCC National Committee and the Bureau of the CPPCC National Committee viewed the CPC leadership, the united front, and consultative democracy as a whole, coordinated their work with the central tasks of the Party and the state, and fully gave full play to their role as a specialized consultative body.
Speaking about plans for 2026, Wang Huning called on political consultants to consolidate public support, form a broad consensus, and pool wisdom and strength for a successful start to the 15th Five-Year Plan.
Stressing the need to strictly adhere to the CPC's leadership, Wang Huning called on political consultants to perform their duties well and serve the central tasks of the Party and the state.
The CPPCC plays a vital role in multi-party cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the CPC. Its members are elected from political parties, social organizations, non-party figures, and various sectors of society.
A report on the work on proposals received since the 3rd session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee, which was held in March 2025, was presented at the meeting.
Over the past year, the CPPCC National Committee received a total of 5,992 proposals from political advisers, of which 5,061 were accepted for implementation following review. Currently, 99.9 percent of all submitted proposals have been processed.
