"The capital pays special attention to maintaining underground sewers carrying pipelines and communication cables. Timely repairs and upgrades to these structures extend their safe operating life and ensure the safety of communications. Last year, 11 such facilities were renovated, including structural repairs and upgrades to utility and security systems," noted Pyotr Biryukov.
The main works took place in the Central, Southwestern, and Western administrative districts, as well as in Zelenograd. During the first phase, major repairs were carried out and structural renovations were completed, while the second phase involved upgrading the low-current systems responsible for the collector's life support and safety. Last year, a significant amount of work was also completed to upgrade the fire alarm system, voice communications, and various monitoring systems.
In addition, specialists replaced the ventilation systems, which create an optimal underground microclimate for the utility lines installed in the sewers. Nearly 370 new digital infrared cameras were installed, allowing for monitoring of the sewer system even in complete darkness.
Pyotr Biryukov recalled that the capital's sewer system is a unique underground city, unparalleled in Russia and the world in terms of its length, network complexity, and the compactness of its internal utilities. The total length of the sewer system exceeds 825 kilometers.
