Nicosia, March 2 (Xinhua) — A UAV struck the British Air Force base in Akrotiri on the southern coast of Cyprus early Monday morning, base officials and the Cypriot government reported.
Base officials reported that personnel were informed that a "small drone" had entered the airfield and that the base was responding to the incident. No injuries were reported, but "minor damage" was caused.
Officials also warned that further strikes were possible.
The strike came shortly after British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced he would allow the US to use British military bases to "destroy Iranian missiles where they are located."
Cypriot government spokesman Constantinos Letimbiotis noted that the authorities are monitoring the situation in constant coordination with both the management of the British bases and the UK government in London. –0–
